Making a Change

Life rarely goes the way we expect, and mine has certainly been no exception. After spending roughly a decade in a field I wasn’t meant for, I left the metropolitan sprawl of Phoenix, Arizona to pursue a life closer to nature. I’ve had the privilege and honor of serving in the US Navy, living in Hawaii, hiking across the Grand Canyon, swimming with sharks, sailing alongside blue whales, and getting to love some of the most wonderful people this world has known. Notably, the parts of my life that have stuck with me the most are the connections I’ve made with nature and the people with whom I’ve made those connections.

Photography has become a hobby of mine over the last two years, but as I learn and grow this skill, it has started to become so much more than just a hobby to me. It’s a way to capture a moment that will only ever happen once, extract it from time, and preserve it forever. It’s a means to share the beauty of the natural world outside of our insulated cities and suburbs, it’s a way to share peace, and it’s a way to capture moments of love. It can be so much more than just that, but for me, few things are more meaningful than sharing my peace and showcasing the love that I have for my subjects - whether they be people I know, people I don’t know, trees dusted in snow, sea lions resting on the rocks, mountains standing guard over nearby woods, or stars lightyears from home.

Going forward, I hope to use this site and this blog as a means of documenting my photography journey. The photos I make are important to me, but so is what I’m feeling when I make them. Bearing that in mind, I’d like to start this blog by sharing some of the photos I’ve made in recent months during moments where I could be still and connect to the world around me.
